Whatmore's chances good: Shah

AHMEDABAD/HYDERABAD, June 4: BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah all but confirmed on Saturday that former Bangladesh trainer Dav Whatmore would be India's new cricket coach.
Speaking to TOI from Rajkot, Shah said: "The possibility of Dav Whatmore becoming the coach is very good." Last week, during a stop-over in Ahmedabad on his way back from Dhaka, Shah had told TOI that Whatmore was one of several choices for the post.
But on Saturday he seemed quite optimistic that the burly Australian would be appointed when the BCCI committee meets on June 4 to decide on the issue.
But though Whatmore has more or less been zeroed in by the BCCI, some former players are not too happy with it. Ajit Wadekar came down heavily on the board on Saturday, saying: "I don't see any reason why the board should be interested in appointing foreign coaches. We have a long list of illustrious former players who are as good.
"Also, a coach needs a minimum tenure. I believe he must be appointed for at least a three-year period," Wadekar said.
